You know how some of us were born with heads full of curly hair? While some were born scanty? Some with no hair at all? Yeah, we were all made differently, we were all made unique.
As we grew older, some of us maintained our full head of hair, and some lost hair so much they became bald. While some of the ones born with scanty or no hair grew long, lustrous hair.
Some others end up completely confused about how to even begin to care for the hair they alrmieady have - full or scanty.
I'll tell you a little story...
Years back, about some 20 years ago, a little girl was born in an urban area. A very beautiful baby girl. This little girl came with scanty hair but as she grew, her hair grew too. She was soon spotting a beautiful Afro. Unfortunately, her mother saw that she could no longer care for the natural hair that her daughter had been born with and decided to shave it all off, leaving the little girl shining bald. Very funny right? I know.
At age 3, she started growing out her hair again, and to avoid the same process, her mother applied a chemical (relaxer) to her hair. That relaxer was meant to tame the girl's Afro from growing too "wild", as they put it.
So she was stuck with relaxers on her hair as she continued to grow. Having the notion that relaxed hair was the best you could get and natural or as they called it, virgin hair, was hard and unnecessary to keep.
As the girl became an adult in her 20s, she realized she did not want to keep damaging her hair with the chemicals, her hair grew to a particular length and stopped. Even when she would cut it off and start again with the relaxers.
She did her research, read blogs, read books on natural hair, and watched videos on how people grew their hair, long and healthy without relaxers. And that day, she promised to never go back to relaxers again.
Fast forward down to a year and some months later, she had fully transitioned out of her relaxed and damaged hair, spotting her beautiful natural fro. Although some days she has her downsides where she feels nothing is working out, all her hard work isn't paying off and her hair is not any close to the ones on those numerous videos she used to watch and read about.
Still, she decided not to give up, continued with further research, and added and removed products from her regimen. Built an entirely new regimen and proceeded to stick with it, making adjustments here and there to fit the needs of her natural tresses.
When it comes to growing your natural hair, you never have all of the knowledge, you will always keep learning.
Some people have it easy for them with the whole process while others struggle a bit.
But don't worry, I aim to break it down as much as possible so that you can begin your journey and love your hair and all that comes with it...
